By bus, Escape This lists the Chatswood service from the west, Palm Beach and Warringah Mall routes from the north, a weekday Wynyard service from the city, and the council’s free Hop, Skip and Jump shuttle around Fairlight, Balgowlah, Seaforth and Clontarf.

By car, street parking is tight; the council car park on Whistler Street is the nearest of four close by.

Timing and house rules

Arrive 15 minutes before your session for the briefing, and allow 15 minutes after the game. One room is about 90 minutes door to door.

  • Every room has a panic button, and game masters watch each game on CCTV.
  • Anyone under the influence won’t be allowed to play.
  • Story and clues are spoken; a moderate level of English reading helps, and one confident reader per team is enough.
  • Costumes are welcome. Comfortable clothes and closed shoes are sensible.
Ages and access

Who can play which room

All the current Manly rooms carry a 9+ guide. Children from 7 can play as paid guests in a family group with a parent or guardian in the room. Groups with children aged 10 to 13 need an adult to stay on site; groups aged 14 and over don’t. Under-3s can sometimes watch, at staff discretion, and count towards the room’s player limit.

No current Manly room is wheelchair accessible. None involves crawling, tight spaces or smoke effects, and all use controlled lighting with some darkness or flashing light.

Old house rules

If you knew the place as Room Eight

Some things on the old Room Eight site no longer apply: the outdoor Packhunts and the monthly singles sessions have gone, and every booking is now private. The address, the phone number and the ferry across the road are unchanged.
